Established in 1972, the Hawkes Family has been growing grapes in the Alexander Valley for more than forty years. Today, the Hawkes family farms over eighty-five acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay vineyards in the southern half of Alexander Valley - all planted on sparsely-soiled hillsides & yielding small amounts of intense fruit. In bottling small lots of Hawkes Wine, they aim to translate their extraordinary standards for the quality of their grapes into extraordinary wine.
FunFact: Estate grown and produced in Alexander Valley, Sonoma County - Hawkes Wines first planted Cabernet Sauvignon in Sonoma County in 1972, 12 years before Alexander Valley became an appellation!
Back then, there weren’t very many vineyards in the region so naturally, there were much fewer opportunities to taste the wine from them. At that time - Hawkes Family was dreaming big and making wine in the basement. 30 years later, they made the first vintage of wine under their own name – Hawkes – 100% estate Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley, grown and crushed and barreled and bottled by the family.

Rancho Maria is a small family-owned and operated vineyard located in the heart of the Dry Creek Valley. Once a rugged hillside, owners Monte & Stella Hansen transformed the property into a beautiful lush garden enriched with fruit orchards, vegetable beds, and colorful flowers. They wanted a wine brand that represented the family and also the special place the grapes grew in.
Today, Rancho Maria Vineyards is proud to continue the tradition that Mr. Lencioni established when he planted grapes more than a century ago. Wine is one of the oldest traditions in human history and the Rancho Maria Family is proud to be a part of such a time-honored tradition. This outstanding vineyard continues to yield classic Dry Creek Valley grapes: fruit-forward, sumptuous, and layered with velvet textures & flavors.
As they say, “Our vineyard is our passion, our wine is our bounty.”
